1. Before you travel
There are different rules for different foreign visitors to Indonesia. Most countries get a free 30 day visa while other countries need to apply for a visa before travelling.
By Twofortnights – Own work, CC BY-SA 3.0, Link
Regardless what country you are from and what visa you will be getting there are a few things every foreign visitor needs before travelling to Indonesia.
- A passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Indonesia.
- A passport that has at least one complete blank page.
- Proof of a return flight or onward flight out of Indonesia.
If the immigration officer has a suspicion that you may abuse the free visa you might also be asked for proof of sufficient funds to stay in Indonesia for the duration of your visa.
The Indonesia Visa is counted per day, not per night. Your first day and last day are included in the 30 day calculation. Even if you enter Indonesia at 23:55h (11:55pm), the last 5 minutes before midnight will still be considered a full day. The same for your departure.
This visa is for a single entry visit. Every time you exit and re-enter Indonesia you will get a new 30 day free visa.
2. Indonesia Visa Free Entry for 169Â countries

This rate is the same for any passenger of any age. Infants need to pay this visa fee as well. The Indonesia visa on arrival can be extended once by another 30 days. The Indonesia visa fee can be paid in cash or credit card. If you pay with cash you can use US Dollars or any other major currency. You will find a piece of paper at the VOA payment counter with the current price in your currency.
4. Extend your Indonesia Visa
There are some options to extend your 30 day tourist visa although it depends what country you are from. 67 Visa on arrival country can extend their visa once. The extension costs USD 35 so in total you are paying USD 70 for a 60 day stay. After 60 days you will need to leave the country. Alternatively any of the above countries can do a “visa run” to extend their visa. A visa run is usually done in one day. You leave the country on a budget flight to the nearest overseas airport. You can leave on a morning flight and return on an afternoon flight.
5. Other countries
If your country is not listed above then you will need to apply for a visa at the nearest Indonesian Embassy before travelling to Indonesia.
6. Overstay penalty
If you overstay your visa then the official penalty is Rp 1,000,000 per day you have overstayed (previously 300,000 per day).
The maximum allowed time you can overstay is 60 days. If you have overstayed your Indonesia visa for more than 60 then you are in the country without valid visa. The punishment for not having a valid visa is a maximum 5 years sentence or maximum Rp 500,000,000 penalty. (article #119 of UU 6/2011). Hi. My 20 yr old daughter has just booked flights for a trip to Bali (on her own) at the beginning of July for a trip for approx 5 weeks, so over 30 days but less than 60 days. Can you please advise whether she can purchase 60 day (211 tourist or otherwise) on arrival at airport or is it just the 30 day VOA one that is available? I’m slightly concerned as the Indonesian Embassy doesn’t appear to offer this service online when we checked. She has a return ticket. A little confused as to best route to follow and concerned that she is running out of time before departure. Thanks.
If you stay for more than 30 days then you need to apply for a 60 day visa at your nearest Indonesian Embassy before travelling. Alternatively, if your nationality is one of the 67 countries (see chapter 3 above) that can get a VOA then you can buy this visa upon arrival as this visa can be extended once by another 30 days.
Hello, I am from New Zealand and am going to Bali later this year for a 7 day conference, I see that it says here that I won’t need a visa, but just wanted to double check.
The free 30 day visa can be used for attending a seminar or a meeting held by a head office or representative office in Indonesia.
Comment I would like to visit Indonesia
Hi, I’m Syrian with UAE residence visa in UAE. My passport expires on 11th Dec 2017 and I’m planning to travel to Bali from 5th to 17th Jun. the Indonesian Consulate in Dubai granted me the visa, but is it possible I won’t be allowed into Indonesia because of my passport expiry date?
Thank you
Your passport needs 6 months validity from the date you enter Indonesia. Regardless whether the Embassy has given you a visa or not, if your passport has less that 6 months you will not be allowed to enter and, even more likely, the airline will not allow you to board the plane.
Hlw im from malaysia but im nepali passport holders,so I want to visit indonesia from malaysia.what should I do?can I enter indonesia from malaysia?
Tq
If your nationality is Nepalese then you are eligible for a free 30 day visa on arrival if you meet the requirements (see chapter 1 above).
It said “A passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Indonesia”
Does that mean i can’t come on June 2017 if the passport’s expired date on august 2017??
Hello Diaz, you will be refused entry into Indonesia if you are visiting in June 2017 and your passport expires in August 2017. What will more likely happen is that your airline will not even allow you on the plane as they will be responsible for flying you back out of the country after the Indonesian immigration department have refused your entry. Only 1 thing you can do unfortunately and that is to get a new passport.
Hi! I’m from Sweden and going to travel to Labuan Bajo for one week and then continue to Bali for two weeks. I’m travelling from Singapore and changing the flight in Jakarta before arriving in Labuan Bajo. Do I have to get a visa at CGK (I’m not going to leave the airport between flights) or can I just take my continuation flight to Labuan Bajo? Are there any other (visa-related) things I should take into account? Thank you very much for answering!
Hello Erik, you will do the visa paperwork at your first port of entry. If you are first arriving in Indonesia in Jakarta then that is where you will process immigration formalities. Your flight from Jakarta to Bali or Labuan Bajo will then be a domestic flight. Have fun in Flores!
I am from nepal but now i am in malaysia working in malaysia after few months i am going back nepal for leave for few monnts from nepal i want to go indonesia to visit for 2 months then from indonesia i want to come back malaysia to start my work is that possible..?
If you are from Nepal you can get a non-extendable 30 day free visa on arrival. After 30 days you HAVE to leave the country. You can then re-enter Indonesia on a second 30 day free visa.
If you do not want to leave Indonesia after 30 days and stay 60 days straight then you can apply for a 60 day tourist visa before travelling at the nearest Indonesian Embassy.
Hello P’ Ketut,
How’s the case if visitor is already stay in indonesia for 22 days with free visa but then want to extend to stay in indonesia until mid of July?
What he has to do?
Thanks a lot in advance & hope can get your feedback soon as my friend really need this info
The free visa cannot be extended or converted. After 30 days you have to leave the country. You can then return to Indonesia and re-enter on a new 30 day visa.
Does the passport size has to be 50cm by 50cm?
Is it ok if its 60cm by 40cm?
The size of your passport doesn’t matter. I also don’t think a 50cm x 50cm passport exists as that is pretty big?
Hey i am from one country in east Europe , in the middle of Albania, Montenegro ,Macedonia and Serbia, so my country is Kosovo and i have the passport of Kosovo, is there any possibility to get the Indonesian visa because i want to visit Bali for vacation,so
Hello Arben, sorry, I don’t know the answer to your question.

Hello, is lebanon on the 30 day free visa list, because the embassy said you need voa on arrivale, and we are staying less then 20 days.

I live in Pakistan and want to go and visit my colleagues in Indonesia. Do I need a visa to go there?
If yes, then which visa will work best for me. It is not a business tour it is just a visit to them as a friend. I just want to explore their country.
Thanks.
You will need to apply for a visa before travelling to Indonesia. Contact your nearest Indonesian Embassy.
I am Albanian, do I need to apply for visa or I can get the visa upon arrival in Bali ?
Albania is one of the 169 countries that can get a 30 day free visa on arrival.
Hello. We are from Costa Rica, Central America and want to visit Indonesia to film a couple of interviews with coffee farmers, during two days for an international commodities company.
What type of special visa requirements apply.
Thanks
Hello Alejandro, I suggest you contact a visa agency in Bali for assistance. They will be able to prepare the paperwork for you. There are many visa agents. One agent you may consider is Visa4Bali.
Hi, I am Chinese, but I study in Malaysia, I am 16 years old, and if I go to Bali departure from Malaysia, I also do not need visa, right? Just show the round-trip ticket and the valid passport?

Hello fellow Bali visitor,
Here’s my travel plan:
1 week in Jakarta
2 weeks in Bali
1 week in Malaysia
2 weeks in Lombok and surrounding
People in our group: 4 people, all Canadian citizen
We will enter Indonesia thru Jakarta – I assume we are eligible for a free 30 days visa, right? 1 week in Jakarta then travel to Bali for two weeks. At the end of the two weeks, we will travel to Malaysia for a week then back to Indonesia to visit Lombok, at this point are we eligible to get another 30 days free visa? Will we get hassled by border agent?
Thank you in advance!
You will be fine as what you are doing is legal unless you use your visa for the wrong purposes. Have a good trip!
Hi,am from Uganda, am I eligible for the 30 days free visa to Indonesia? If not where is the Indonesia consular or embassy here in Uganda.ushernami92@gmail.com.

Hi Im from Yemen and would like to Visit Indonesia for the 2nd time but this time im with my wife which is UK citizen, i have been informed that i can get on arrival visa for 7 days based on providing marriage certificate when i come with my wife, is that true please need your feedback on this in order to plan my trip.
Hello Rezq, this is the first time I hear about that and I don’t think this is true but then again, I could be wrong. Where did you get this information?
Hi, my name is Cher. I am from South Africa and planning to travel to Bali from Dubai through Jakarta, I will have to collect my luggage and proceed to the domestic departures as the flights are not married, can you please tell me if 2hours transit time will be sufficient and if I will have any troubles with my passport (visa fees).
Thank you!
Two hours is cutting it tight and if possible I would consider delaying the domestic departure to a little more than 2 hours. When you arrive in Jakarta you will need to process immigration formalities, collect your luggage and exit the arrival terminal through customs. You will then need to take a bus from the international to the domestic terminal building. The standard check-in time for a domestic flight is 1 hour before. If all goes smoothly then it may be possible. The domestic flight may even have a delayed departure (does happen over here) which would work in your favour. It is hard to tell.
Hello, India is stated under Free visa list as well as VOA list (where you need to pay USD25). How is it different – free and USD25? Is Visa on arrival free for Indian nationals? IF so, what documents are needed at Airport, and pictures as well?
Thanks for your help!
Hello, if you are from India you can choose between either the (a) free 30 day visa – not extendable or (b) USD 35 visa for 30 days – extendable once by another 30 days.
If you plan to stay for 30 days or less then you should just enter the country on the free visa on arrival and you will be A-OK. Have a good trip!
is Pakistan is on visa on arrival category or not?
No it is not, you need to apply for a visa before travelling.

Please advise if I would need to provide any additional documents upon departure or if there is departure taxes that will need to be paid directly at this point.Looking forward to your soonest response.

Hello,
I have only one blank pages left on my passport ,plus many pages with some stamps.is it all right for the free visa? I’m from Belgium and would like to enter Indonésie in Dumai.
Thanks
Officially you are required to have 2 empty pages although only 1 page will be used. If you approach the immigration officer with your passport open at teh empty page there is a chance they will not notice you only 1 page left and you will be able to enter.
Hi i travelled to indonesia from philippines last october 2016 but im planning to come back on august 2017.. but this time i come from saudi arabia to indonesia.. should i require visa or just the same as i travelled last year… i hope u cud give me information..

I don’t think there are plans to cancel the free visa.
I am interested in obtaining the cultural visa pass (60 days I believe) known as a 211? It says I require sponsorship from a Bali resident. Is it possible to Obtain a sponsor online prior to my visit to Bali or is this something I must sort out upon arrival?
Thanks!
I am a US citizen, planning to go to Medan n Jakarta, for free visa I can just get it at the arrival airport right?
Your info will be appreciated!
That is correct. Not all airports have visa free facilities and you can check above (end chapter 2). Jakarta does have free visas on arrival.
I am a New Zealand Citizen. I am going on a cruise from Fremantle to Benoa, Probolinggo, Lombok and komodo. Then back to Fremantle. Do I need to get a Visa?
Yes, you will need a visa if you enter Indonesia. If you are a NZ citizen you can get a free 30 day visa in Benoa harbour.
I am a US citizen and will be visiting Indonesia on a free visa. My friend and I will be going to Singapore for an overnight halfway through the 30-day limit. When we reenter, will the 30 days reset or will it still count from our first entry (thus necessitating a visa-on-arrival and extension)?
Hello,
I am a US citizen and am planning to use the 30 day free visa. My friend and I are going to Singapore for two days during the 30 day period. When we return, does the 30 days reset or does it still count from the first day we arrived (thus necessitating a visa-on-arrival)?.
These visas are for a single entry only (opposed to multiple entry). It resets and you will get a new 30 day visa.
Hello! I am Canadian and am travelling to Bali for 52 days. Is it possible for me to leave Bali after 30 days (Fly to Singapore) and return to Bali on a round-trip flight on the same day to receive a second “free 30 day visa”? How long must I stay out of Bali to qualify for a new 30 day free visa? Is there a maximum number of times I may depart and return? Thanks!
Hello Chris, there is no law that limits how often you can enter and exit Indonesia. If you however do twelve 30 day visits per year then the immigration office will be very suspicious as they will believe you abuse the free tourist visa for employment. If you only do it 2 or 3 times then it shouldn’t be a problem. On your 2nd entry they will unlikely ask questions. On your 3rd entry they may start asking questions. One other thing to add, if you do a visa run to Singapore do not tell the Singapore immigration that your purpose of visit is a visa run as they will get grumpy and may deny you entry since that is not a valid reason to visit Singapore. If you are doing a 1-day visa run just tell them that you are there for 1 day of shopping. Have fun!
Hello,
I have Iraq passport and I’m residences in Jordan I have friends live in Jakarta and I’m paying to visit them can i get my visa from airpot or from Indonesian embassy in Malsyia ?
If your nationality is one of the 169 countries then you are eligible for a 30 day free visa. If not then you will need to apply for a visa before travelling.
I am an Indian national visiting Bali for a week for tourism. I know that entry/visa is free. But what documents are checked/need to be shown at immigration? Only exit tickets? or hotel bookings, proof of funds (card or cash?), hotel bookings, insurance etc.?
Only exit tickets and a passport with at least 6 months validity from the date you enter Indonesia.
Are there any specific airports where free visa will be processed??
As I am planning to visit Yogyakarta Airport to travel further towards Yogyakarta Temple.
Please provide detailed info.

Hello Aditya, you can find the list of airports at the end of chapter 2.
Hello, what are options for Serbia citizens getting to Bali without visa but wanting to stay for 50 days? Is it possible to enter with VoA or some other option?
Thanks
Serbia citizens can get a 30 day free visa on arrival. This visa cannot be extended and you will be required to leave the country after 30 days. If you wish to stay for 50 days you could stay for free for 30 days, leave the country for a day and come back the next day on a new 30 day free visa on arrival. Alternatively you can also apply for a 60 day tourist visa at the nearest Indonesian Embassy before travelling.
I am from Bangladesh. Do I need to bring my previous passport along with my current passport or not? please tell me.
Along with my current passport do I need to bring/show my old previous passport(expired & invalid now)? That old passport number is mentioned under “Previous Passport” heading in my current passport.
Hello,
Greetings from Singapore. Myself Saif an Indian national working in Singapore. Flying to Jakarta. India is mentioned in visa free entry and also in Visa on arrival. Please let me know if I get a visa free entry in Jakarta. Flying from Singapore.
Visa free entry is available in Jakarta. Have a wonderful trip!
hello, I came to Indonesia on VOA for 30 days. I entered Indonesia on 29th December which means 27th January will be my 30 day here. Does this means i will have to leave Indonesia by 27th January or can i leave on 28th?
Also, is it possible for me to leave Indonesia and enter again on next day and get VOA for another 30 days?
thanks
Sorry, made a mistake.I entered Indonesia on free visa( nepalese). Can I leave Indonesia go to Singapore and enter Indonesia again same day or next?
Thank you
Hello Deepak, yes you can do a 1 day visa run. However when you enter Singapore it might be better not to say that you are only there for a visa run. Maybe you can tell them you are only in Singapore for a day to go shopping. If you say you are on a visa run they may give you a hard time at the Singapore Immigration as they don’t seem to like visa run visitors.
Thanks for quick reply.I will just say I am here for shopping.
Why not take the opportunity to visit Singapore for a few days?
Hi,
We plan to visit Bali for 14 days. My husband and I are US citizens/passport holders so I know that we qualify for a Visa free entry. Where I am confused is for our son who is also a US citizen/password holder. He is 17 years old at the time of travel and holds a US passport that expires every 5 years since he is a minor (his passport expires June 2018). I think I read somewhere that he needs a visa to enter Indonesia. Is that correct and is this the Visa on Arrival? Is the Visa on arrival that processed at the Bali airport or is that something I need to secure before leaving the US. Your assistance is much appreciated.
Your passport needs to be valid for at least another 6 months from the day you enter Bali/Indonesia. Providing all your family have this then you will all be able to enter of the free 30 day visa on arrival. Does this answer your question?
hello
I have an European passport. Arriving from Manila I would like to ask for a 60 days stay in Indonesia.
Is that possible to get 30 days visa extension just arriving at Bali Airport before passing customs?
Thanks in advance for your information
If you wish to stay for 60 days you can apply for a 60 day tourist visa before travelling. To get this visa you need to visit the Indonesian Embassy. Alternatively you can also pay the USD 35 visa on arrival which is extendable by another 30 days. At the moment of writing there 67 countries that can pay the USD 35 extendable visa on arrival (see chapter 3 above).
