1. Before you travel
There are different rules for different foreign visitors to Indonesia. Most countries get a free 30 day visa while other countries need to apply for a visa before travelling.
By Twofortnights – Own work, CC BY-SA 3.0, Link
Regardless what country you are from and what visa you will be getting there are a few things every foreign visitor needs before travelling to Indonesia.
- A passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Indonesia.
- A passport that has at least one complete blank page.
- Proof of a return flight or onward flight out of Indonesia.
If the immigration officer has a suspicion that you may abuse the free visa you might also be asked for proof of sufficient funds to stay in Indonesia for the duration of your visa.
The Indonesia Visa is counted per day, not per night. Your first day and last day are included in the 30 day calculation. Even if you enter Indonesia at 23:55h (11:55pm), the last 5 minutes before midnight will still be considered a full day. The same for your departure.
This visa is for a single entry visit. Every time you exit and re-enter Indonesia you will get a new 30 day free visa.
2. Indonesia Visa Free Entry for 169 countries
Nationals of 167 countries and 2 special regions can get a free 30-day non extendable visa.

This rate is the same for any passenger of any age. Infants need to pay this visa fee as well. The Indonesia visa on arrival can be extended once by another 30 days. The Indonesia visa fee can be paid in cash or credit card. If you pay with cash you can use US Dollars or any other major currency. You will find a piece of paper at the VOA payment counter with the current price in your currency.
4. Extend your Indonesia Visa
There are some options to extend your 30 day tourist visa although it depends what country you are from. 67 Visa on arrival country can extend their visa once. The extension costs USD 35 so in total you are paying USD 70 for a 60 day stay. After 60 days you will need to leave the country. Alternatively any of the above countries can do a “visa run” to extend their visa. A visa run is usually done in one day. You leave the country on a budget flight to the nearest overseas airport. You can leave on a morning flight and return on an afternoon flight.
5. Other countries
If your country is not listed above then you will need to apply for a visa at the nearest Indonesian Embassy before travelling to Indonesia.
6. Overstay penalty
If you overstay your visa then the official penalty is Rp 1,000,000 per day you have overstayed (previously 300,000 per day).
The maximum allowed time you can overstay is 60 days. If you have overstayed your Indonesia visa for more than 60 then you are in the country without valid visa. The punishment for not having a valid visa is a maximum 5 years sentence or maximum Rp 500,000,000 penalty. (article #119 of UU 6/2011). Hello I’m from Philippines working now in Singapore do I need to get a visit visa or not to enter Bali I want to short visit in Bali. It is OK I just shows only my back in Fort return ticket.
I am a Pakistani retired from govt service in March 2017.

Visit the nearest Indonesian Embassy to apply for a visa.
I am a UK citizen traveling to Bali with a one way ticket and I only plan to be in the country for less then 30 days however I havn’t booked a return flight or onward journey yet as I am not sure where/when I am going. Will I have any trouble with imagration getting the visa free entry ?
One of the requirements for the free visa is proof of a flight out of Indonesia within the visa period. Although Indonesian immigration officers rarely ask passengers to show their onward flight, it is generally the airline that will give you a hard time as they will be held responsible if the Indonesian immigration officers find a passenger who does not fulfil this requirement. Therefore I think the biggest struggle you will find will be at the airline check-in counter. Of course, you might be lucky and not have any problems at all.
Dear Sir,
I am from researcher from Papua New Guinea. I am visiting Jakarta, Indonesia for week and will return. I am attending a meeting. Do I need to apply for visa or no. Kindly advise.

Hello,
My passport validity expires on 29 October 2018.
I have planned to visit Indonesia on 28th March, and will be leaving Indonesia on 2nd April.
Will there be any problem on my passport validity?
Thanks in advance.
Your passport needs to be valid for another 6 months from the day you arrive in Indonesia. If you arrive in Indonesia on 28 March 2018 and your passport is valid until 29 October 2018 then that is 7 months and 1 day validity left which is OK.
how many months does it takes after submission at the indonesia embassy in nigeria for visa collections..
Good day,

Dear sir/Madam,
I am a Sri Lankan. I want to attend an International conference in Gadja Mada university (UGM), Yogjakarta, Indonesia.
Sri Lankan is listed under Indonesia Visa Free countries.
However, I have booked my flight ticket to Adi Sucipto International Airport, the principal airport closer to the UGM.
But, that airport is not listed under the 29 airports for Visa free travelers.
So, what would happen for me if I enter into Indonesia through the Adi Sucipto Airpot?
Whether I need to get visa for Indonesia to enter through Adi Sucipto airport?
Regards,
Adi Sucipto International Airport is one of the 29 airports that can process the free visa.
free visa entry is only available for one time within 12 months or is it available every time i enter indonesia?
It is available every time you enter Indonesia.
Hi Ketut,
I am travelling to Indonesia and arrive in Bali on the 11th March and leave on 11th April 2018, I originally thought it was 30 days and have now realized it is 32 days. Do I need to pay for a visa for an extra 2 days, and if so how to do I do it?
Thank you, I am from Australia
If you enter on the free visa then you can stay maximum 30 days. If you “accidentally” overstay your visa then there is an IDR 300,000 penalty per day you overstay. To avoid this you can either apply for a 60 day visa before travelling or voluntarily pay the USD 35 for the visa on arrival (VOA) which allows you 1 extension while in Indonesia. The extension process takes 5 working days and has to be started latest 7 days before your 1st visa expires.
but I can leave the country and re enter again ?

if I leave the country how many day am I permit to stay in other country before I return to indonesia, because I want to go malaysia from Indonesia

Does anyone know if the penalty for overstay has increased from 300,000rp to a higher amount?
My friend said she saw online that it recently changed from 300,000 to 1 million rp in 2018. I can’t seem to find that information online anywhere, but I’m not sure if I’m googling the right keywords.
Please let me know, thank you
It is supposed to increase to 1 million per day on 1 April 2018.
Hallo I have a question regarding my departure from Indonesia. My visa ends on 26th of January. I will take a flight from solo to Jakarta on 26th but than I have 7hours to spend in Jakarta waiting for my flight back home to Europe. I will pass the immigration control before midnight but my flight will leave at 00.15 on 27th of January.
Does that 15min count as an overstay? or is it not a problem as long I pass the immigration control before midnight?
Thanks,natalia
The dates are calculated by the time you cross immigration. If your flight leaves at 00:15h (27 Jan) then you will already have processed immigration formalities before midnight still on 26 January. At least I am pretty sure that is how it goes. Can you please come back here afterwards to share how it went for you?

Has anyone done this before?? After 60 days you will need to leave the country. Alternatively any of the above countries can do a “visa run” to extend their visa. A visa run is usually done in one day. You leave the country on a budget flight to the nearest overseas airport. You can leave on a morning flight and return on an afternoon flight.
My fiance has an assault charge from 2014 and were not sure if his tourist visa application will be accepted so we were maybe thinking of trying this route. We’re wanting to stay for 2-3 months. Also were Canadian.
The 1-day visa run is done by many. Technically it is allowed in Indonesia as long as you don’t abused it (e.g. do twelve 30 day visa runs in a year as the immigration may get suspicious of why you stay that long for the purpose of tourism). Just be careful what country you pick for your visa run as Singapore for example has a dislike for visitors who only enter the country for a few hours to do a visa run.
I’m Ghazanfar Hassan from Pakistan. How can I get free visa for 30 days

I’m holding aCuban passport and I have to go to Jakarta to put in operation some pharmaceutical equipment. Can I get visa free entry for 30 days or I need to get Visa before departure?
The free visa can be used for the purposes of Leisure and tourism / Family / Social / Art and Cultural / Government visits / Giving a lecture or attend a seminar / Attend a meeting held by Head office or Representative office in Indonesia / While in transit on the way to another country. To install equipment that would probably considered work for which you need a permit (normally).
Is there a limit to how many times you can enter Indonesia with the 30 day visa exemption in a year?
Thanks
There is no limit. However, if you do 12 x 30 day visas in 1 year the immigration officers may get suspicious on why you come this often (e.g. illegal worker).
my 30day visa finishes on the 2nd december bali airport closed it looks like i might have a overstay will imigrassi fine me because airport is closed i was to depart bali on the 1st december if flights go ahead .but looks like ash cloud hanging around
If you can prove that you were unable to leave because the airport was closed then there should be no overstay penalty.

Question
I live in USA but I’m a green card hold “permanent resdient” I’m I eligible for VOA or do I have to go and apply at a visa office
Whether you can get a visa depends on your nationality. What is your nationality?
Nigerian
But I’m green card holder of the USA
The Indonesian visa depends on your nationality (not on the USA Green Card). Nigerian citizens need to apply for a visa at the nearest Indonesian Embassy before travelling.

If it required to book a return ticket from the US before entering to Indonesia? What if I don’t return to my country but want to travel to another country from Indonesia? If it required to book that ticket BEFORE traveling to Indonesia? Or Can I book a ticket later cause I still can’t fix the day yet?
It is required to have proof of a ticket departing from Indonesia within the visa you are getting. If you enter on a free 30 day visa then you need a flight reservation within 30 days from arrival. Although mostly the Indonesian immigration officers don’t check, what will likely happen is that your airline will not allow you on the plane as they would be responsible to get you out of Indonesia if you get stopped at immigration.
Hello,
May I ask if an American citizen is required to apply visa on arrival for my leisure purpose?
And any different if I travel there for my business trip from the US?
American citizen is eligible for a free 30 day visa on arrival. This free visa can be used for the purpose of: Leisure and tourism. Family. Social. Art and Cultural. Government visits. Giving a lecture or attend a seminar. Attend a meeting held by Head office or Representative office in Indonesia. While in transit on the way to another country.
Hello, I bought VOA in the airport when I arrived Bali on 05th Nov, 2017. However I changed my schedule, so I don’t need the Visa anymore this time. so..
1. Can I use it for next time?
2. If I leave in 30days, even I buy VOA, can I just leave as normal from Bali?
Thanks for your advice.
The visa is a single entry visa. Once you leave Indonesia the visa becomes useless. You can leave anytime as long as it is within 30 days.
